Bus services across the borough will see improvements from Saturday 5 April, including more frequent and better-connected journeys.
Alongside the changes, a new companion bus pass is being introduced for disabled residents who need support to travel. A companion bus pass will allow someone to travel with that resident for free.
These improvements are possible with funding from the government’s Bus Service Improvement Plan and marks the council’s commitment to easier travel around the borough and beyond.
Key bus service improvements will include:
- service 53 - Saturday journeys will now run hourly through to Maidenhead and Wexham Park Hospital on a more reliable timetable
- service 108 - buses will now run every 30 minutes from Bay 6 at the bus station
- service 156 - a new timetable will improve reliability, with most buses running slightly earlier and a new weekday journey at 7.30pm
- services 157 and 158 - routes extended to serve new housing near Temple Way and Sopwith Road, with a new timetable
- service 598 - now extended to Crowthorne train station with an extra return journey on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- service X94 - now stops at Martins Heron train station and Tesco with more journeys between Heatherwood and Frimley Park hospitals, running later into the evening
Bus operators’ websites also include route updates: Thames Valley Buses and White Bus.
Andrew Hunter, executive director for place, said:
“These latest improvements mean more reliable services, better coverage, and improved access to key destinations - just what our residents have told us they want.
“By making public transport more convenient and appealing, we’re also encouraging more people to leave the car at home, helping us deliver on our climate goals too.”
Further announcements on infrastructure to support bus travel are expected later this year.
