We are asking for your views on how we best support autistic people in Bracknell Forest.
Over the next 5 years, the all-age integrated autism strategy will help make sure autistic children, young people and adults get the right support. This support will be provided alongside local health, education, and voluntary and community sector organisations.
The council’s cabinet supported carrying out a public consultation on the new strategy at its recent meeting.
Anyone can have their say. You may be an autistic person, a parent or carer of an autistic person, a community representative or a resident who wants to make their views known. Tell us what you think by Tuesday 21 October.
Your responses will help us develop a full action plan that is effective and appropriate.
A recent survey of autistic children, young people, adults, parents and carers in Bracknell Forest, showed the priorities were:
- improving autistic children and young people’s access to education
- tackling health and care inequalities for autistic people
- improving understanding and support of autism within our communities
- supporting more autistic people into employment
- supporting positive transitions from children’s to adult social care
Cllr Roy Bailey, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
“We have more than 3,000 autistic people of all ages in Bracknell Forest. Making sure we are offering the correct support is important for their wellbeing and development. This strategy will show how we plan to support autistic people alongside other organisations like the NHS and charities. As the strategy covers all autistic people, it will also help provide a better transition of care when a young person moves from children’s to adult social care teams.”
Once the consultation has ended, and the responses analysed, the proposed strategy will be finalised and presented to the cabinet for approval.
