A new school attendance strategy for Bracknell Forest schools, approved by Cabinet earlier this year, is now available online.
The strategy has been shaped by the views of:
- parents and carers
- schools
- children and young people
- voluntary and other statutory organisations
It sets out the council’s vision to improve school attendance in Bracknell Forest. This includes making sure children and young people receive support at the earliest opportunity, with the right people involved, at the right time.
The strategy supports the Council Plan’s ambition to make sure children have quality education and opportunities to fulfil their potential. It covers priority areas, including:
- making sure roles and responsibilities for all partners are clear
- consistency with shared approach and training
- supporting the most vulnerable
- meeting the needs of the local community
Cllr Roy Bailey, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
“We are delighted to be able to approve the new school attendance strategy, and thank all those who took the time to be part of the public consultation. As a council, we recognise the need for a clear and robust strategy to improve school attendance for Bracknell Forest pupils.
“Being in school is important not only to the child’s academic achievement, but also its wellbeing and wider development. In addition, being around teachers and friends in a school or college, provides the best way for most pupils to learn and reach their potential. The strategy also details the challenges around school attendance for children with special educational needs and disabilities and how we will work with families to find the best ways to help.”
