Planning and building control review
The purpose of this review is to provide savings within our planning policy, development management, technical support, building control and land charges services.
- streamlining customer processes
- ensuring our services continue to perform well
- capturing the right levels of fee income
- continuing to provide a plan-led approach to development to support the borough’s needs as it continues to grow
It includes finding ways to provide these services differently which are customer focused, as efficient as possible and provide an appropriate level of service which will be identified during the review process. The functions are all statutory services which the council is required to provide.
We have now completed the second ‘Plan’ phase of this review. A second Gateway Review was held in March 2018 and borough councillors supported a number of recommendations which were taken forward to the Council’s Executive on 8 May 2018. Following this decision we have moved into the next ‘Implementation’ phase of the review.
During this phase we will be implementing some changes to the fees that we charge for certain services such as pre-applications, Planning Performance Agreements, S106 Monitoring and Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area facilitation. We will also be launching 2 new advice services that will replace the duty officer service that we currently offer. Please see our planning and building control pages for more information.
We will be working on redesigning the service, most notably in Planning and Land Charges, to ensure our processes are customer and digitally focused. This will help our residents become more self sufficient online.
