The second Bracknell Forest Council climate change summit took place on Monday 8 July. Bringing together local businesses, community groups, schools, residents, councillors and council staff.

Following the success of last year’s summit, the joint climate action board was formed to collaborate on action against climate change. The board is made up of representatives from working groups from each sector of the community.

This year, the joint climate action board, working groups and even more local representatives joined the summit at the 3M offices in Bracknell to collaborate on a community climate change strategy.

Attendees were updated on the council’s progress and took part in various workshops to help inspire change in their sectors, including:

  • understanding climate change and its impacts
  • developing your own climate change action plan
  • reducing your energy bill and emissions
  • enhancing biodiversity around you
  • creating a plan for sustainable travel
  • managing your own waste better
  • improving health and reducing emissions
  • driving climate action at your school

Cllr Mary Temperton, Leader of Bracknell Forest Council and Executive Member for Council Strategy and Climate Change, said:

“We are delighted to have welcomed over 150 local representatives from our businesses, schools, community groups and local organisations to attend the second Bracknell Forest Council climate change summit.

“It was inspiring to see so many people engaged in creating action plans for themselves or their organisation and collaborating to help one another.

“We will continue to support the joint community action board to track the progress we are making across the borough.”

An updated version of the council’s climate change strategy will be published later in the year.
