The construction of Bridgewell supported living accommodation reached a key milestone on Tuesday 1 October, as the project team celebrated its topping out ceremony.
The topping out marked significant progress in the construction of the much-needed accommodation for adults with care and support needs, after work began in December 2023.
The council’s new apartments are situated on the previous Bridgewell site at Ladybank in Hanworth. Neilcott Construction have designed and are building the accommodation.
Construction work is expected to last until spring 2025.
The accommodation consists of 4 apartments. Each apartment has:
- 5 ensuite bedrooms
- communal lounge
- kitchen
- dining area
- an additional accessible bathroom
The design and location of the accommodation will enable people to benefit from living in a small, personalised setting. It will provide the opportunity to socialise with other people both within Bridgewell and the wider community.
Mayor of the Borough of Bracknell Forest, Cllr Jenny Penfold, joined Cllr Megan Wright, cabinet member for adult services, health and housing. They were also joined by representatives from the council and Neilcott Construction for the ceremony.
Cllr Wright said:
“The council has been working with people with care and support needs, their families and our partners in the development of this scheme. The new fit-for-purpose facility will provide accommodation that is better suited to the needs of the individual.
“The design of the building will allow for engagement between residents as well as within the community, reducing the feeling of isolation and will be invaluable for those living with care and support needs.”
John Papworth. Regional director at Neilcott Construction, said:
“Neilcott is delighted to be working with Bracknell Forest Council to create this much needed specialist accommodation. Sustainability is high on the council’s agenda, so this high-quality build is being delivered to BREEAM Excellent standards, using local supply chain partners to support the local economy.”
A service provider for the supported living accommodation will be appointed in early 2025, following a thorough and robust procurement process.
