Political make-up of Bracknell Forest Council

We have received official notification that two councillors have left the Labour group to form an independent group called the Bracknell Forest Independents.

As a result, the council has moved from a Labour majority to no overall control. This means no single political group holds a majority of seats.

No overall control councils are not uncommon and can operate in various ways, including through coalition arrangements or a minority administration.

At present, the council is being led by a Labour minority administration. Any changes to the administration would be a matter for councillors at Full Council.

This change will require a review of committee memberships. These will be reviewed to reflect the council’s new political make-up. Full Council in November will consider the revised political balance and appointments in line with the required democratic process.

This change does not affect the timing of local elections in Bracknell Forest, which are scheduled for May 2027. It also does not trigger any by-elections.
