White Ribbon Day

White lanterns at night and detail shot of lantern

White Ribbon Day is on Tuesday 25 November.

1 in 4 women will be a victim to sexual assault or attempted assault in their lifetimes.

Led by White Ribbon UK, this day engages with men and boys to end violence against women and girls.

This year, the theme is ‘We Speak Up’.

Sexist jokes, catcalling, staring, and comments might seem harmless, but they are serious because they can lead to violence and abuse.

This White Ribbon Day, men are asked to use their voices and speak up to create a world where everyone is safe, equal and respected.

Every time we ignore something that doesn’t feel right, we miss a chance to set a better example.

Lantern parade and civic ceremony

To mark the day and remember the victims of violence, Bracknell Forest Council is holding a lantern parade and civic ceremony.

Date: Tuesday 25 November
When: 5:30pm
Where: The Lexicon

The parade will begin in Princess Square and end in Union Square. The event includes choral performances from The Royal Harmonics.

Lantern workshops

You are invited to join a free workshop and create your own lanterns for the parade. No experience is needed, just your enthusiasm!

The workshops will guide you through the process of making a paper and willow lantern. All materials will be provided, and you’ll leave with a finished lantern ready to shine on the night of the parade.

We kindly ask that all workshop participants commit to attending the parade on the evening of 25 November.

This activity is not suitable for children or unaccompanied minors. Participants must be 16 years or older.

Reserve your space at a workshop on Eventbrite:

Elimination of violence against women

Tuesday 25 November also marks International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, followed by 16 days of activism.

This year, the 16 days of activism focus on digital violence against women and girls and are a reminder that digital safety is central to gender equality. Digital violence includes behaviours such as monitoring of social media profiles or emails, cyberbullying through social media, sharing intimate photos or videos without your consent, and using GPS locators or spyware.

Kaleidoscopic UK is a charitable organisation of survivors, for survivors of domestic abuse.

If you are in immediate danger, call 999 and ask for the police. If you can’t speak and are calling on a mobile, press 55 to have your call transferred to the police. Find out how to call the police when you can’t speak (Silent Solution).

For more help and information, you can download and use apps such as the Bright Sky app or Hollie Guard app. Other safety initiatives include the Safe Spaces scheme and Ask for Angela
