As the festive season approaches, it’s a time for reflection and forward planning, and I am delighted to share some wonderful news about our borough, as well as important reminders for the holidays.
I am incredibly proud to share that Bracknell Forest has been ranked fourth in the national UK Better Lives Index. This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the quality of life we enjoy here.
The index uses a range of indicators to determine the best places to ‘be born, grow up and grow old’. We were the only area in Berkshire to make the top 10, highlighting our strengths and reaffirming that we have a community which is healthy and thriving. This ranking proves our borough is flourishing and provides excellent opportunities for residents of all ages. Read more about how Bracknell Forest is one of the best places to grow up and grow old.
While we rightly celebrate our successes, we are also trying to manage significant financial pressures like most other local authorities nationwide. The cabinet is due to discuss our draft budget for 2026 to 2027 at a meeting on 16 December. If the draft is agreed, we would appreciate your feedback during the public consultation. This is due to run from 17 December to 27 January. Check our website for details on how to have your say from 17 December.
To help with your Christmas preparations, I want to remind everyone that single bus journeys within Bracknell Forest remain free on weekends throughout December leading up to Christmas. We hope this encourages sustainable travel and supports local shops. For more information, read our free buses at weekends in December page.
Finally, please take a moment to think about safety. The Crimestoppers website reminds residents to secure their homes, keep valuable gifts out of sight, and dispose of gift packaging discreetly in your recycling bins, rather than on display outside your home. If you’re socialising, make sure to plan your journey home. Thank you to all those who work throughout the festive time to keep us all safe.
On behalf of Bracknell Forest Council, I wish all our residents a very happy, healthy and safe Christmas and New Year.
