Half-term activities around Bracknell Forest

With half term coming up, parents and carers will find a host of activities to choose from to keep young people in Bracknell Forest entertained, but without breaking the bank.

To get out in the fresh air, the borough has many green spaces and parks to explore with fun, free activities to do.

In our parks you can find some great activities, including:

  • carved sculptures
  • educational nature trail with wildlife themed wood carvings
  • brass rubbing wildlife trail
  • play areas
  • den building
  • miles of trails to explore

There is also a number of indoor activities to help keep boredom at bay, including:

Bracknell Forest library activities

Treasure hunt

From Saturday 14 February to Sunday 22 February, there will be a free children’s treasure hunt around all Bracknell Forest libraries. This is for children aged 3 and over and can be done at any time during the week.

Rabbit on the run

‘Rabbit on the run’ is a free theatrical performance for children aged 2 to 5 years old.

Performances will take place on Saturday 14 February at:

  • Crowthorne Library - 10am to 10:45am
  • Bracknell Library - 1:30pm to 2:15pm

Space crafts

A space themed, free craft drop-in session for children aged 3 to eight 8 years old will take place on the days below.

Monday 16 February:

  • Harmans Water Library - 10am to 11am

Tuesday 17 February:

  • Sandhurst Library - 3pm to 4pm
  • Binfield Library - 3pm to 4pm

Wednesday 18 February:

  • Whitegrove Library - 3pm to 4pm
  • Great Hollands Library - 3pm to 4pm
  • Crowthorne Library - 3pm to 4pm

Thursday 19 February:

  • Bracknell Library - 10am to 11am
  • Ascot Heath Library - 3pm to 4pm
  • Birch Hill Library - 3pm to 4pm

Guide dog visit and talk

A guide dog visit and talk will take place at Crowthorne Library from 10am to midday.

Eco crafts

An eco craft drop-in session will take place at Bracknell Library on Saturday 21 February from 10am to 11:30am.

Coral Reef Waterworld

Coral Reef Waterworld has a swimming pool, waterslides and a pirate ship. There are discounts for local residents on Monday, Friday (excluding holiday periods), Saturday and Sunday from 3:30pm (proof of address is needed).

The Look Out Discovery Centre

The Look Out Discovery Centre offers:

  • hands on science exhibition (booking needed)
  • special demonstrations (booking needed)
  • play area
  • woodlands to explore

In addition to these activities, there is also support available for people struggling financially through the Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF).

The HAF programme is open to children who are eligible for free school meals.  These activities will include:

  • sports
  • arts and crafts
  • performing arts

Parents and carers can book up to 4 sessions over half-term (places are subject to funding availability). All participating children will also receive a healthy meal.

Cllr Roy Bailey, cabinet member for children and young people, said:

“February half-term can be challenging with the weather. Families living in Bracknell Forest can benefit from a wide range of open spaces and activities that are free or low cost. Whatever the weather brings, getting outside and exploring can be fun and great for mental and physical health.”
