Bracknell Forest Council has released a statement regarding the resignation of two councillors from their leadership/ cabinet roles today (3 March).
Susan Halliwell, chief executive, said: “We have been officially notified that Cllr Mary Temperton has stepped down as leader of the council with immediate effect.
“We have also been officially notified that Cllr Roy Bailey, cabinet member for children and young people, has stepped down from his cabinet position with immediate effect.
“Cllr Temperton and Cllr Bailey will remain as elected members of the council unless they choose to resign their seat. They will stand as independent councillors and will continue to represent their wards as usual.
“We will support the democratic process with regards to the appointment of a new leader, but the decision rests solely with the relevant political parties and councillors.
“In the interim, Cllr Helen Purnell, deputy leader and cabinet member for environment, community, and housing, will be acting as leader of the council. A new leader is due to be elected by councillors at a future meeting of Full Council.
“The cabinet portfolio for children and young people will also be covered under interim arrangements until a new leader is appointed and makes the necessary cabinet and portfolio updates.”
