Making participation real

Young people are invited to have their say on the draft Children and Young People’s Participation Strategy. Recently agreed by Cabinet, the draft strategy offers guidance to those working with and alongside young people in the borough. It will help give young people in Bracknell Forest opportunities for a better future.

The strategy sets out how young people’s views will shape decisions, influence services and help guide how resources are used. It is for young people aged 11 to 18, and up to 25 for those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). It has been developed with young people, by the council and its partners, including:

  • schools and colleges
  • integrated care board
  • Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
  • Involve
  • youth services
  • the police and fire service
  • public health
  • Bracknell Forest Safeguarding Board

Cllr Megan Wright, cabinet member for children, young people, education and health, said:

“This strategy sets out how we plan to create meaningful opportunities for young people to have a say. We want to make sure their views are taken seriously and show clearly how their input leads to action.

“We are committed to listening and working alongside young people in our borough, and making sure their voice leads to real change.”

The public consultation will take place over 6 weeks in May and June 2026. Some of the consultation activities include:

  • a consultation event at Braccan Walk Youth Hub on 29 May
  • focus groups in schools, facilitated by young people
  • getting views from young people outside of mainstream education settings
  • focused conversations at the youth service’s SEND and LGBTQA+ youth groups
  • an online survey for the wider community
