Bracknell Forest celebrates strong year of progress

A strong year of progress for local people and services was recognised by Bracknell Forest Council’s Cabinet at its meeting on Tuesday 23 June.

The council’s final quarterly report for the 2025 to 2026 financial year (January to March 2026) highlights a wide range of achievements, showing how the council is supporting residents, families, strengthening communities and building for the future across the borough.

Key highlights for the quarter include:

  • one of the best places to live - Bracknell Forest has been ranked the fourth best place to live in the UK, reflecting a high quality of life for residents
  • outstanding support for children and families - this was demonstrated by:
    • Children’s services achieving an outstanding rating by Ofsted
    • Larchwood children’s home achieving an outstanding rating, with children safe, happy and well cared for
  • more support for children with additional needs - this was demonstrated by:
    • plans approved for a new autism school in Buckler’s Park
    • 8 new childcare settings opened, creating 350 places
  • helping people live independently - the new Bridgewell Supported Living accommodation is helping adults with learning disabilities live in safe, modern homes.
  • strong and active communities - this was demonstrated by:
    • over 1,000 young people taking part in youth activities
    • around 600 volunteers signing up
    • more than 9,600 volunteer hours given to parks and green spaces
  • high use of local services - this was demonstrated by:
    • 1.5 million visits to leisure centres
    • over 410,000 visits to libraries
  • supporting young people into work - a new Youth Employment Hub is helping young people find jobs, training and advice
  • investing in roads and transport - agreement for over £7.7 million to be spent improving roads, pavements and cycle routes
  • action on climate change - this was demonstrated by:
    • grants of up to £5,000 for community climate projects
    • new electric vehicle charging points installed, with more planned

An independent peer review also praised the council as a well‑respected organisation delivering good services, with strong partnerships and dedicated staff.

Cllr Helen Purnell, leader of the council and cabinet member for council strategy and communities, said: 

“We are proud of the progress we have made in 2025 to 2026. This report shows the real difference our staff and partners are making every day. From outstanding support for children and families, to stronger communities and new investment, we are working hard to make Bracknell Forest a great place to live. I would like to thank everyone who has helped achieve this.”
