Students across Bracknell Forest are being congratulated as they receive their GCSE and other Key Stage 4 results and look ahead to the next stage of their education, training or employment journey.

Results day is an important milestone for young people, reflecting years of learning, effort and perseverance. Behind every set of results is an individual story of commitment, personal progress and support from teachers, school staff, families and friends.

Provisional results show that:

  • 77.9% of students in state funded schools achieved grade 4 or above in English language or literature (above the equivalent figure nationally)
  • 74.3% achieved grade 4 or above in mathematics (above the equivalent figure nationally)
  • 68.3% achieved grade 4 or above in both English and mathematics
  • the average Attainment 8 score across the borough was 47.9

For students receiving results today, there are many positive routes forward. Some will continue into sixth form or college, others may start an apprenticeship or vocational course, and some may move into training or other opportunities that help them build skills for the future. What matters most is that every young person is supported to choose the path that is right for them.

Grainne Siggins, executive director for people, said:

“Congratulations to all our students receiving their GCSE and other Key Stage 4 results today. This is a significant moment in their lives, and I hope every young person feels proud of the work, resilience and determination that has brought them to this point.

“I would also like to thank the teachers, school leaders, support staff, families and carers who have encouraged and guided students throughout their Key Stage 4 studies. Their dedication plays a vital role in helping young people develop the confidence, knowledge and skills they need for whatever comes next.”

Cllr Megan Wright, cabinet member for children, young people and health, said:

“I would like to congratulate every young person collecting their GCSE results today. These results reflect the hard work, ambition and the many different talents of our young people.

“For many students, today will bring celebration and excitement. For others, it may bring questions about what to do next, particularly if the results they receive are different from those they hoped for.

“There is no single definition of success and no single route to a positive future. Whether a young person is planning A Levels, a college course, an apprenticeship, vocational training or another pathway, support is available to help them make informed choices and take their next step with confidence.

“I wish all our students every success as they move forward from this important milestone.”

Students who have questions about their results, or whose plans may need to change, should speak to their school in the first instance. Staff can help them understand their options, including post-16 study, apprenticeships, training routes and other next steps.

Young people in Bracknell Forest can also find careers information and support through the council's webpages.

The National Careers Service exam results service also provides free advice and support. Young people can explore their options online, use webchat or speak to a careers adviser on 0800 100 900.

Results day can bring a mixture of emotions. If results are different from those hoped for, it is important to remember that one set of results does not define a young person’s future and there are different routes forward. There is a range of local and national support available.
