Afghan Resettlement Programme statement

Autumn leaves in reds, greens and yellows on a forest floor in the shape of a heart

Following some recent online comments regarding people arriving in Bracknell Forest on the Afghan Resettlement Programme, the council has released a statement.

Susan Halliwell, chief executive, said:

“ People arriving in Bracknell Forest as part of the Government’s Afghan Resettlement Programme (ARP) all have indefinite leave to remain. None of the arrivals are illegal immigrants or asylum seekers – this is correct for all guests, past and present.

“The ARP accommodation in the borough is designated for families. It should be noted that some family groups can be large with multiple siblings and they can also be intergenerational with grandparents, parents and children all arriving together in a group.”

We are aware there is online speculation that there were new arrivals at the Bracknell Forest ARP accommodation on Tuesday 13 October. We can confirm this is incorrect as there were no arrivals on 13 October. There were permanent departures from the accommodation on that date with people leaving on a coach.
