All residents, businesses and stakeholders are invited to share their views on the new draft Parking Standards Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).

The consultation, which is now live, runs until Tuesday 10 February 2026. It seeks feedback on proposed updates to parking requirements for all new developments across the borough.

The revised SPD is designed to bring current guidelines in line with the Bracknell Forest Local Plan (adopted 2024). It addresses significant changes in how people live and travel, including the rise of electric vehicles and the shift toward hybrid working.

Key proposals in the draft SPD include:

  • aligning with modern policy – providing clear guidance to support the 2024 Local Plan and reflecting national changes to use classes (how buildings are categorised)
  • addressing specific housing needs – introducing dedicated parking standards for houses in multiple occupation (HMOs)
  • supporting the town centre – increasing flexibility for residential and commercial parking in Bracknell town centre and areas within a short distance of rail and bus stations
  • green infrastructure – setting out clear requirements for electric vehicle (EV) charging points in new developments
  • suitable alternative natural greenspaces (SANG) accessibility – introducing parking standards for SANGs
  • modern working habits – adjusting requirements to account for the increase in working from home

Cllr Guy Gillbe, cabinet member for planning, transport, and countryside, said:

“The current standards from 2016 are now out of date and this revised approach brings them in line with the new Local Plan.

“By consulting on this draft, the council is seeking to provide clear and practical guidance that supports sustainable development, helps reduce pressure on local streets, and ensures that new development continues to meet the needs of residents, businesses and visitors alike.”
