Memory and Wellbeing Festival for Dementia Action Week
Residents, volunteers, and local organisations gathered at Princess Square last month for Bracknell Forest’s Memory and Wellbeing Festival, as part of Dementia Action Week.
The festival brought together representatives from health, social care, and voluntary sectors. It raised awareness for dementia prevention, early diagnosis, and post-diagnostic care.
The event also gave attendees the opportunity to learn about the services and support available in Bracknell Forest.
Visitors experienced a varied programme of activities to promote wellbeing, understanding, and connection. Highlights included:
- Singing for the Brain sessions
- interactive exercise sessions with Everyone Active
- informative seminars around brain health and making homes dementia-friendly
- free health checks
- live music from Cactus Brass
During the festival, local volunteer Deana celebrated the milestone of helping 500 people become Dementia Friends. Ambassadors like Deana deliver sessions to help people learn about dementia and practical ways to support individuals living with the condition.
Cllr Paul Bidwell, cabinet member for adults, economy and regeneration, said:
“The festival was a valuable opportunity to raise awareness for dementia and highlight the support available across the borough. I would also like to thank the volunteers, stallholders, partners, performers, and The Lexicon, who gave their time to make this event possible.”
